Campfire Bacon & Egg Sandwich

This Campfire Bacon & Egg Sandwich is the perfect way to start your morning outdoors. It’s warm, hearty, and packed with protein to fuel your day of hiking, fishing, or exploring. With crispy bacon, a perfectly fried egg, and melty cheese between toasted bread, this sandwich delivers that classic campfire comfort.

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 4 slices of bread (or 2 English muffins)
  • 4 strips of bacon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 slices of cheddar or American cheese
  • 1 tbsp butter or cooking oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Hot sauce, avocado slices, or grilled onions for extra flavor

Equipment Needed

  • Cast iron skillet or a camping griddle
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Small bowl (optional for whisking eggs)

Instructions

Cook the Bacon

  • Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat on the campfire or camping stove.
  • Place the bacon strips in the pan and cook until crispy, turning occasionally with tongs.
  • Once done, transfer the bacon to a paper towel or a plate to drain excess grease.

Toast the Bread

  • Use a bit of bacon grease or butter in the pan.
  • Place bread slices in the pan and toast until golden brown. If using an English muffin, toast the cut sides down.

Fry the Eggs

  • Add a small amount of butter or oil to the skillet.
  • Crack the eggs into the pan and cook to your preferred doneness (sunny-side up, over-easy, or scrambled).
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Assemble the Sandwich

  • Place a slice of cheese on one piece of toasted bread.
  • Add crispy bacon strips and the cooked egg on top.
  • Place the second slice of toasted bread on top to complete the sandwich.

Melt the Cheese (Optional but Recommended)

  • Wrap the sandwich in foil and let it sit near the fire for 2–3 minutes.
  • This step helps the cheese melt and makes everything warm and gooey.

Enjoy!

  • Carefully unwrap and bite into your delicious, smoky, campfire-made sandwich.
  • Add hot sauce, avocado slices, or grilled onions for an extra kick.
